You know those beautiful parades that happen during Carnival in Rio every year? With all of the glamour and choreography and exquisite costumes that goes on, you don’t think these parades just develop over night, right?
Nope, there are rehearsals! Most are open to the public! The samba schools, as each “team” is called, gather their bands, dancers, and vocalists for rehearsals that are usually decked out with training costumes, loud and energetic music, and drinks, making a party out of their rehearsals for us all to enjoy.
Taking a tour of Samba School rehearsals can be a blast, and you’ll be taken to the neighbourhoods where these schools are, watch a rehearsal, and who knows even learn that year’s song?
Rehearsals usually start in August and end the week before Carnival. This tour’s schedule will be up every August so you know which nights you’ll be able to enjoy these parties with us while traveling to Rio. The schools we usually work with are: GRES Acadêmicos do Salgueiro, GRES Unidos de Vila Isabel, GRES São Clemente, GRES Portela, GRES Estacao Primeira de Mangueira. You can, however, book ahead of time to guarantee your spot, in case you already have your travel dates set.
17:00 -21:00 OR 20:30- 00:30, generally, about 4 hours
